The Gift of Walking
I like to walk! And I walk a lot! One of the gifts of being retired is the freedom to spend lots of time walking. I usually walk four miles in the mornings before the sun comes up. Which means that over the last year I have probably walked about 1,000 miles. When I did that bit of mental calculation this morning it left me a bit stunned. It really is a powerful experience to just be present in the moment, putting one foot in front of the other and seeing where you end up.
Intimately Connected with the World
When the mind is festering with trouble or the heart torn, we can find healing among the silence of mountains or fields, or listen to the simple, steadying rhythm of waves. The slowness and stillness gradually takes us over. Our breathing deepens and our hearts...

Let There Be Light
Let there be Light... At the beginning of the book of Genesis in the Hebrew Scriptures the poetic author offers us a beautiful and inspirational glimpse of the world we live in. "God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light." (Genesis 1:3) The Sacred...
Beauty, Awe, & Wonder
I participated in an intense week-end workshop focused on dramatic and dynamic personal/global transformation. One of the things we focused on was what gets in the way of our transformation, including what the workshop refers to as my “Act,” which is the construct...
Getting Out of My Head
When I’m stuck in my head life gets pretty miserable pretty fast. Why is it that I never get stuck in my head with happy, pleasant thoughts swirling around in my brain. It’s always dark, hopeless, “I’m not worthy” thoughts! The solution, when I can manage to...
A Message from the Universe?
“What is saving my life now is the conviction that there is no spiritual treasure to be found apart from the bodily experiences of human life on earth. My life depends on engaging the most ordinary physical activities with the most exquisite attention I can give...
