In this morning’s Dance Circle one of the dances we shared was a song in which we called on the presence of Ganesha, the Hindu God who is understood as the remover of obstacles and one who loves to dance (among other things). Hinduism may or may not be your spiritual home base, but wherever it is that you call home base, spiritually speaking, I suspect that there is room there for someone or something that can help you remove the obstacles in your life that get in the way of you becoming the best version of yourself (who you were born to be). So this morning, as our dance leader was introducing this dance to us, she invited us to think about some obstacle in our lives we might want have removed. And then, just as the opening chord was struck on the guitar, she said, “Let’s listen for what Ganesha might have to say on the matter.” Well, as we began to move and sing, it took only seconds for an answer to show up for me. It came in two parts. The first was powerful in its simplicity. “Dance!” And the second sliced straight to the heart of the matter, at least for me. “Get over yourself!”

How many of the “obstacles” in my life are only there because I forget to bring the energy of the Dances (joy, love, community, connection with Sacred Presence), and because I so frequently take myself far too seriously? For the rest of the dance, and the rest of the morning, I found myself smiling, laughing, and feeling the power of life and light surging through me. May I continue to remember to get out of my own way and just Dance!
