In the early morning darkness  I sit in the hot tub and stare up at the stars. Occasionally I watch a point of light sweep across the sky, dancing among the stars. Those are satellites in orbit around our planet. They are hundreds of miles above me, and on average are no bigger than a car. I shouldn’t be able to see them, but I can. It’s possible because they are reflecting the light of the sun. I find that to be amazing.

I sometimes fall into the trap of thinking that I’m small and insignificant, and can’t really make a difference in the world. But the truth is that we human beings have the capacity to reflect the light of the Universe. And doing so doesn’t require being bigger or more important than we are. It just requires showing up with an open heart and a willingness to shine.

This evening I participated in a Dances of Universal Peace event, singing and dancing with my tribe. Afterwards someone commented that when they looked at me across the circle I was bright and shiny. That’s what happens when you show up with an open heart.

Imagine what the world would be like if we could all show up that way. I can’t control what the rest of the world chooses to do, but as for me I intend to do my best to show up with my heart wide open as often as possible. And I invite you to join me.
