I have an amazing family. The list begins with my brother and sister. I’m tempted to say that they are just stuck with me, except I know that simply isn’t true. I know plenty of families where siblings do not share any sort of meaningful relationship. So I am grateful for the gift of my siblings. But that is only the beginning of the list. Everyone else on the list is there purely by choice. I have more daughters than any person deserves, and none of them are biologically related to me. And yet all of them continue to welcome me into their lives with open armed and open hearted love. The same is true of my grandchildren. The remarkable connections I share with all of these remarkable human beings feeds and nourishes me every single day. In the musical “The Sound of Music” there is a song – “Somewhere in my youth or childhood, I must have done something good.” Except I don’t really think that’s how it works. My family is a gift – pure and simple. It’s not about earning it. It’s not about deserving it. All I can do is continue to show up, receive the gift with deep gratitude, and seek always to allow it to help me become more fully who I was created to be. My gratitude abounds.
