Right now, in these times in which we find ourselves living, I find it easy become disheartened as I fall into the trap of wondering if I even have the capacity to make any sort of difference in the world. But then the Universe breaks through that dark thinking and reminds me that I matter and I do make a difference, just by showing up as myself. Last night I went to my local Dances of Universal Peace event. This particular Circle has always been one of my favorites, and this was my first time being with them since moving back to town. I didn’t go with any particular “agenda” other than to sing and dance and reconnect with beloved friends. So I just “showed up.” The Dances are an experience that lights me up in a way that is transformative, so just “showing up” to the Dances feels like I am shining. And last night I was reminded that when I allow myself to shine it lights up other people as well. At the end of the evening two friends in particular commented on what a difference it made having me in the circle, not because of anything that I did, but simply because I was there as my shining self. There are certainly actions I can take to help spread love and relieve suffering and promote healing in the world, but it is important for me to remember that just showing up as my radiant self is a pretty good place to begin. Every little bit of light we can shine into the darkness makes a difference. And I am the only one in the whole world who can shine in the uniquely particular way that I do. It is long past time for me to start believing that. I invite you to join me in letting our light shine. We all matter. We can all make a difference. And the time is now!
