In the Dances of Universal Peace we sing and dance sacred phrases from the faith traditions of the world. And because the original inspiration for the Dances was the Sufi tradition, many of those sacred phrases are in Arabic. One of my favorites is “La Ilaha Illallah” (which is often translated as “there is no God but God” but a more expansive understanding is something like “there is nothing except Sacred Presence”). Tonight at our Dance session the gathered community felt powerfully in sync, and Sacred Presence was tangible. We sang a “La Ilaha Illallah” song and the energy was off the charts. The voices were as one, the musicians were taking it to a whole other level, and Spirit was flowing around and through all of it. I think if all the lights had gone out the tent would still have been illuminated by the radiance shining in all of our faces. I was profoundly aware that we were embodying the Divine reality we were singing about. I think if we had gone on much longer than we did the top of the tent might have blown off.
My heart keeps breaking open and more Love comes pouring in. I am blessed beyond measure to be a part of this experience.
